Laurel

“Laurel” is a 16h 14yr registered Standardbred gelding. Laurel and Hardy were rescued end of March this year. An ex Amish buggy horse, this guy came with a lot of emotional scars and was scared of life, literally. We let his body have some rest from years of road work and worked on getting him healthy. He had horrible ulcers which took time to heal, and needed a bit of chiropractic work to get things comfortable after years in harness.

While we were putting him together physically we were working hard on his trust of people. A couple months ago we tried to start him under saddle and he showed us he was not mentally ready so we continued with the trust building on the ground. Recently we felt he was ready to try riding again and it was a success!!! He was confused at first but kept his composure and tried every step of the way. By the end of the ride he was trotting around the ring with his ears up, enjoying life. We will continue with baby steps and I feel he will put the pieces together quickly with consistency and be a lovely riding horse. Right now we don’t have the riders to work these guys consistently under saddle so we are listing Laurel as available for adoption now and will continue his training while he is with us.

Laurel is still green under saddle but is very smart and willing, not spooky and very much a gentleman with a soft personality. He is sound and healthy, he has some wind puffs from his past career but has never shown any lameness. He is barefoot with nice feet. UTD on all vaccines, coggins, dental, de worming, etc. Adoption contract with references.
